High Altitude German Chocolate Cake

4 oz German chocolate or Bournville chocolate bars
1/2 c boiling water
3/4 c butter
1 3/4 c sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 c buttermilk

Melt chocolate in boiling water and cool. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time and beat well after each. Add melted chocolate and vanilla and blend well. Sift flour, salt and soda together. Add flour mixture to batter alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition.

Pour batter into 3 cake pans lined on bottom with wax paper. Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 375.
